A Course In Practical Herbalism

 This course will introduce the student to herbalism including history, herbal terminology and legal considerations when working with herbs.  Herbs will be studied as they relate to the different body systems and materia medica & energetics will be covered in each class. Nutrition and other health aspects will be covered.  Each class will have a practical hands on demonstration including: medicine making using herbs, gardening, plant identification, sustainable harvesting and preservation,  flower essences or other techniques for good health.  This basic course will prepare participants to begin to help themselves and their families with herbs and nutrition for better general health.

Classes

Classes will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm each class day (Fridays). We will meet two Fridays per month from January 2016- May 2016.   Please bring a nutritious pot luck item to share with other students for lunch each class day.  Will will have discussions over lunch.   All classes will be held at my house near Georgetown unless otherwise determined.  Location will be disclosed to students.

Class Schedule

This schedule is subject to change based on the number of students in the class, and as time allows, some subject matter may be moved to different class days. Plant walks and gardening sessions will be dependent on the weather as well.  I reserve the right to make these changes as needed.  Classes will build on each other. Important Information

1.  Students must attend all classes in the course in order to get a certificate at the end of the course. Missed classes can be made up the next time the course is offered.

2.  If you have allergies to dogs, cats, chickens or bees, please discuss at the time your deposit is made.  All classes will be held at my house unless otherwise determined.

3.  Students will build their own Materia Medica file to use for future reference (in class and outside of class for their notebooks).   Homework assigned each class.

4.  Dried herbs will be available for sale at a discounted price for students.  Larger quantities can be ordered through a class order, which could also be at a discounted rate.  Other supplies can be coordinated and ordered as a class order at a wholesale rate.

5.  Students are encouraged to participate in discussions, however detailed conversations should take place outside of class. 

6.  Everyone is expected to be respectful of everyone else.

7.  Safety precautions must be followed at all times.

8.  Future classes will depend on interest and advanced classes will be offered as the interest grows.  Apprenticeships may be offered in the future classes to help off set tuition, but are not available for this course.

Balance of $500 due January 15, 2016

The $200 deposit is non-refundable, unless the class doesn't make.
